Stickers have become a very valuable attribute to today’s society. People place stickers all over the place from cups to cars to even school supplies and laptops. Vinyl adhesive stickers first started to make an appearance after World War II, when many advancements were made to adhesive. During these times vinyl stickers were used to promote products and to advertise. Tourists would travel to famous places and after they returned home from their travels they would place a sticker on top of their car to represent all the places they had visited. Later stickers became a popular campaign tools. Dwight D. Eisenhower was the first president to apply this tool in his presidential campaign, and campaign stickers obviously worked for him because he became the 34th president of the United States of America. However, the idea of stickers started long before all of this. The first evidence of stickers traces all the way back to ancient egypt where evidence has shown that there were papers stuck onto walls. Today stickers are used to allow people to express themselves, show their opinions, and even to just tell one car from another. There is even a National Sticker Day! This holiday is celebrated by sticker lovers worldwide on January the 13. This holiday was originally set in place to commemorate a man by the name of Ray Stanton Avery in 2016. Avery was born on January 13, 1907. He produced the first self adhesive sticker in 1935 when he was only 28 years old. His stickers were used as price labels for products for sale. From papers stuck to ancient walls, to price stickers, and travel memoirs, all the way to campaign stickers, and to the self expressing stickers of today these little objects have traveled all throughout history. Today we get to celebrate their tremendous journey through time on National Sticker Day!
